1. 1 Brief History and Profile

Mariano Marcos State University was founded on January 6, 1978 by virtue of Presidential Decree 1279 issued by Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos. The decree merged the then Mariano Marcos Memorial State College of Science and Technology in Batac, and the Northern Luzon State College in Laoag City, and integrated the college departments of the Ilocos Norte Agricultural College and the llocos Norte College of Arts and Trades. MMSU’S mandate is to provide advanced education in the arts, agricultural and natural sciences, as well as in technological and professional fields. The university has defined itself through excellence in its core functions: instruction, research, extension, and resource generation. It is recognized as a model for the rest of the SUC system in the Philippines for its notable R&D activities, international linkages, and commercialization of innovations. Its 300-hectare main campus is located at the heart of the City of Batac, Ilocos Norte, a peaceful young city conducive for educational and research.  MMSU Hymne and March

Lyrics MMSU Hymne

MMSU dear

Alma Mater beloved

To you we promise our never ending love;

Though fate may bring us

To other lands afar,

Our hearts and thoughts will always be

With you wherever we are.

Hold high the green and gold

Waving with pride and hope;

Inspiring us to rise

To reach the greatest heights.

With your kind guiding hand,

We know we'll never fail

To reap success and give the best

For you and our Fatherland.

(Repeat)

To reap success and give the best

For you and our Fatherland,

MMSU...

Lyrics MMSU March

Dear Mariano Marcos State University

We now sing of thy real glory

We adore thee and love thee truly

Where'er we shall chance to roam

Thy sons and daughters will ever love thee

Are to thee loyal and true

Always Alma Mater dear,

Where'er we go, we'll think of thee.

Thou hast been always longing

For the welfare of thy children

And to them, thou hast devoted

Thy attention and best care

We soon shall be repaying

For the cares and kindness true

We will ever Alma Mater

Give the best in us for thee.

1.2 Academic support system

Collage Teacher Education

To support CTE Student learning to be more efficient. Mariano Marcos State University has Laboratory schools in the city of batac and laoag to facilitate STE practice and research. Laboratory schools are integrated and under the auspices of MMSU.
The Laboratory Schools are well managed by the faculty staff just like the other schools. All aspects are integrated into the laboratory school under the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Currently the principal of the laboratory schools is Prof. Philistia Mercuria Bagasay.
I had the opportunity to observe and practice teaching at the laboratory school in the city of laoag. in laoag there is a kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, and senior high school. I observed and taught for the junior high school level in grade 9. I practiced teaching in class 9 ARIES with 33 students and class 9 SCORPIO with 31 students.

1.3 Teaching System

The current curriculum used by the Philippines is K to 12 Curriculum, it is implemented from Grade 7 - 9. For the Grade 10, they are still using the previous curriculum that is Science Curriculum. on the LHS for one one-hour lesson. School starts at 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. one of the most noticeable differences between teaching system in philippines and Indonesia is duration for one subeject. in LHS MMSU for one subjet the lesson happened for one hour ( 60 minute). But in indonesia for one subject in general for 1,5-3 hours.        Based on my observations in social studies lessons.  The teaching system at LHS teachers usually enter the class on time. Teachers usually teach using power point media in explaining the teacher's material by giving examples that are relevant to the surrounding environment and the teacher will ask questions. after explaining at the end of the lesson the teacher gives individual or group assignments for the next meeting. Based on my interview with the field study student there is a fun fact they say that many students think that social science lessons are boring lessons so, teachers need to choose the right and interactive learning strategy. A few facts also for social science lessons still use tagalag language in learning so that I don't understand. However, I am lucky that there is a field study (FS) student who helps me to translate.
