2.1 Teaching methods of the teacher

During my week-long observation at LHS, I had the opportunity to observe the seventh, and ninth grades of Junior High School. During the observation I certainly had a bit of a language barrier as I said for social studies lessons in the Philippines using tagalog. However, I am very grateful because there are MMSU FS students who are also doing observations helping me to be a translator and I also understand because there are some words that are familiar with English and the teacher also mixes English in explaining.

  • For grade seven, before starting the lesson, the teacher will instruct the students to collect their smartphones at the teacher's desk. The main purpose of the teacher doing that is so that in the learning process students can focus on following the lesson. Teachers use expository learning strategies abaout natural disaster . however, learning still focuses on student centered where, teachers often ask open questions to students and provide examples that are relevant to life.

  • For the eighth grade, I had a slightly different experience because when I observed the students, it was not the teachers but the collage teacher education students from MMSU who were doing teaching practice and internships. Based on my observations the fs student explained material about the history of philosophers in the world. The learning method in the opening part of the lesson they use word guessing games and pictures to attract students' attention so that learning is fun. then in the core part using the expository method at the core of the material. In addition, they also insert quotes in learning.
  • For grade nine based on my observations, the teacher uses expository learning which explains material about various economic systems. The teacher explains the material by giving relevant examples such as student activities in the canteen buying food and the teacher also uses animated videos to explain the material so that students are not bored. In learning the teacher also asks open questions so that there is two-way communication.

2.2 Their learning materials and innovation

During teacher observation in the learning process the material presented is as follows:
  • grade 7 natural disasters innovations that I found the teacher connects natural conditions in the Philippines with natural disasters that often occur such as el-nino.
  • grade 8 history philosophy of innovation that I found every time I entered 1 sub material fs student will display guessing games images or words in power point.
  • grade 9 economics innovations that I found the teacher gave and proposed examples that were easy to understand. such as explaining the economic system with activities to buy traditional Filipino food, namely chipay or graham mangoes.

2.2 Sources of learning and technology used by the teachers

During the observation, I saw that for the source of material in learning, the teacher used a textbook with content adapted to the k-12 curriculum and sources from the internet. for technology that is used only uses power point, laptops, and animated videos.
