1.1      Procedures of teaching

        It was an opportunity and honor for me to be able to do my teaching practice abroad. I was very excited and nervous at the same time. I practiced teaching in class 9 Aries and 9 Scorpio based on the lesson plan that I had made. in the learning process there are 3 parts, namely opening, core, and closing. 

       Opening In the beginning of class i entered by instilling a mindset to smile and open up to new experiences. i greeted students using english and introduced greetings in english to students as a form of introducing indonesia. before starting learning by inviting students to pray together as a form of showing gratitude to god for this extraordinary life. after praying i asked students if they knew what material would be learned that day. then many students did not know. so i gave a guess the picture game that showed clues about the learning material that day. The students were very enthusiastic about guessing the picture.

     Core : At the beginning of the core activities I asked the question "what do they consume in their daily lives" and wrote the answers in front of the class on the board. I explained the material about consumption with power points. I asked many open questions and relevant to daily life. The purpose of asking many questions is to involve students to be active and understand more in learning. here are some lists of questions that I ask students:

  • how do you define consumption based on activity in daily life?
  • Give an example for types of consumption!
  • What factors influence consumption?
  • Does consumption affect social and environment?

     In explaining the material, I also inserted Indonesian elements such as giving an example of different types of consumption in Indonesia that are influenced by culture. After teacher explain the outline about consumption. Teacher bring the students to see the reality in daily life about consumption by watching this video link in this bellow.  As an evaluation, students do an assessment with partner and I choose they partner with random.




 

Closing : In the closing part I instructed students to collect the assignment. Closing the lesson with prayer and closing greetings. Students are disciplined and polite in answering the greetings given.



1.2 Time management and organizing activities

I teach for 1 lesson for each class.  I manage my time by

Opening for 10 minutes 

The activities in it are praying before starting the lesson, checking student attendance, providing motivation, and informing learning topic and outcomes.

Core for 35 minutes 

     In this activity, I explained the material about consumption using PPT. During the explanation, I gave many fun facts and stimulus questions to students to be active. If there are students who raise their hands to answer the question, I will approach the student. I also appoint students who I feel are passive to answer questions and I when explaining while walking around the class in order to ensure that students remain focused and strengthen bonding. 

Assessment for 10 minutes

In this activity to see how far students understand the topic of consumption, I give an assessment to students and work with partners that I choose randomly with the aim that they can socialise more.

Closing for 5 minutes

In this closing session I ask students to dare to give conclusions about today's learning and I provide validation. closed by saying greetings to students.

1.2 Classroom management 

For a teacher, having classroom management skills is very important how we can get the attention of students during learning and students are excited about learning. here are the things I did during practice teaching to get good classroom management.

  • Entering the class and saying greetings with enthusiasm and a smile. i believe the positive energy that teachers bring will give a butterfly effect to students. i also say greetings in Indonesian to attract students' attention and make students ask the meaning and invite students to say it together.
  • Before entering the learning topic, I gave a rule that was implied in the motivation I gave, namely a quote that said "every day learning something new" and instructed students to read together. I convinced students to be brave in answering and not to be afraid of making mistakes.

  • Furthermore, to start learning, I provide guessing games to stimulate and increase student enthusiasm. the picture I display is the topic to be studied. 
  • To get active student participation I asked an opening stimulus question, namely "what do you consume in daily life" and instructed students to answer by coming forward to the front of the class to write answers on the board.
